What You Should Do if Your Crown Falls Out

While losing a dental crown can be alarming, we don’t want you to panic if your crown falls off your tooth.

The first step to take if your crown comes loose is to call Advanced Dental Care to schedule an appointment immediately. It is imperative that you seek treatment for a missing crown as soon as you can. If you ignore the situation and don’t seek treatment, it is possible that your tooth could require a new crown prep procedure, a root canal, or even an extraction.

Next, if you still have the crown and it is in good shape, clean the crown and store it in a plastic bag or another sanitary container where you won’t misplace it. If the crown is not damaged, Dr. Christopher Young, our experienced dentist, may be able to put the crown back in place.

Why Do Dental Crowns Sometimes Fall Out?

A dental crown is more likely to fall out if the tooth underneath has decayed after the crown was fitted, changing the dental crown's fit. A crown can also fall out if you are eating sticky food, which can pull the crown off the tooth, or if you grind your teeth, loosening the crown.

To maintain dental work, such as crowns, bridges, and dentures, it is important to pay special attention to your diet and oral health care.

With a dental crown/bridge, you should avoid eating hard and sticky substances to prevent displacement and protect your dental treatments and teeth.

Paying to Fix Your Dental Crown

If you are concerned about the financial aspect of seeking dental treatment, we accept a variety of dental insurance plans in our office. We also offer a membership plan at Advanced Dental Care for patients who do not have dental insurance. To learn more about our membership plan, visit our financial page.
